Dr. Alan Levitt is the Medical Officer in the Division of Chronic and Post-Acute Care at CMS. Dr. Levitt received his medical degree at Albany Medical College in 1982 and completed his residency in internal medicine at Hartford Hospital in 1985. Dr. Levitt was on the faculty in the Department of Medicine at University of Maryland Medical School and had been the Director of the Stroke Rehabilitation Unit at University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute (UMROI, formerly known as Kernan Hospital). At UMROI, Dr. Levitt was the Chief of Medicine, President of the Medical Staff and at the time of joining CMS in 2013, was on the Board of Directors of the hospital. Dr. Levitt is responsible for the CMS quality reporting programs in nursing homes/skilled nursing facilities, inpatient rehabilitation facilities, long-term care hospitals, home health agencies and hospices.
