Fatigue, defined as difficulty in initiating or sustaining voluntary mental tasks, is a common symptom in several clinical conditions, including multiple sclerosis (MS). Fatigue is reported to be a severe and disabling symptom that interferes with daily living. While there are various lines of work on the topic of fatigue, to date there has been no integrated accounts of fatigue and no effective treatment. In this symposium, speakers will present new approaches to fatigue treatment in MS by focusing on underlying neurobiological mechanisms, basic research and non-pharmacological treatment.
