In acute care settings, the question of prognosis after traumatic brain injury occurs very early in care. There are several competing practices that can put the patient and providers in an ethical conundrum. For example, there are heroic efforts to save persons from traumatic brain injury acutely; however, many times they are not afforded the opportunity for rehabilitation, Does prognosis affect access to treatment and rehabilitation? How do biases and misconceptions affect care? How can variations in care be addressed? How do persons with brain injury navigate the healthcare system? This symposium will works to solve these questions.
