Neuroplasticity (includes neuroscience)
Clinical Practice (assessment, diagnosis, treatment, knowledge translation/EBP, implementation science, program development)
Literature suggests patients undergoing inpatient rehabilitation spend approximately 76% of their day in their bedroom and 62% being inactive. People with stroke may not be benefitting maximally from inpatient rehabilitation. In this presentation we will describe and discuss: 1) development of a "Patient Directed Activity Program" based on principles of neuroplasticity by an multidisciplinary team of stroke physical and occupational therapists; 2) establishing the feasibility of implementing the "Patient Directed Activity Program" over a 12 month period; 3) completing a randomized control study comparing traditional standard of care vs traditional standard of care plus the "Patient Directed Activity Program."
