Falls are a significant health concern for older adults. However, older adults seldom receive routine fall risk screening. Recent advancement in technology can potentially provide self-administered fall risk screening for community dwelling older adults. The purpose of this symposia is to discuss the role of technology in community based fall risk screening, with emphasis on the advantages and limitations of different type of sensor technologies, its accuracy compared to standard assessment tools, and user preference and acceptance. We will discuss research examining the use of a smartphone, depth-sensor, and mixed reality headset for fall risk assessment in older adults.
