Technology (e.g. robotics, assistive technology, mHealth)
Older adults with mobility disabilities acquired in early to mid-life, often referred to as aging with disability, are at risk of complex challenges with the addition of normative age-related declines. New smart, sensor, and tele-technologies hold great potential to supportthese individuals in maintaining daily activities to promote independence and aging-in-place. This symposium will highlight projects from the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Technologies to Support Aging-In-Place for People with Long-Term Disabilities (RERC TechSAge). Projects include: technology user needs research, a tele-technology remote Tai Chi intervention, technologies for falls detection and risk assessment among non-ambulatory wheelchair users, and SmartBathroom technologies.
