There is a critical need for rehabilitation-centered health services research to improve outcomes and reduce costs of post-acute care in high-need patient populations. Therefore, this presentation will: (1) categorize clinical profiles for individuals who are high need and high cost, (2) identify the association between early physical therapy intervention and outcomes for Veterans with low back pain at risk for chronic opioid use and (3) examine factors associated with delayed rehabilitation for individuals with multimorbidity post stroke. This symposium will provide evidence about healthcare utilization for high need patient populations using novel methodology to conduct HSR using administrative data.
