There's increasing evidence that FES can not only promote functional recovery of lower and upper limb movements after stroke but can also be used to reanimate the limbs of paralyzed SCI patients to provide functional independence. This mini-symposium will touch on recent clinical trials using HCI and FES technologies, engineering systems linking volitional activity to evoked movements, and a range of effector systems. Leading researchers will discuss trials and innovations that allow improved neural decoding of fine motor control, sensory feedback, ways to improve system training, barriers to deployment, and expected technological advances that may help to address translational barriers.
