Selecting patient-reported outcome measures (PROs) to quantify value requires the ability to compare and appreciate the clinical implications of available psychometric properties. Some professional organizations have adopted processes to disseminate diagnosis-specific recommendations to clinicians. The American Physical Therapy Association's Task Force for Head and Neck Cancer (HNC) will provide an overview of this iterative process, including the initial exploration, evaluation, and dissemination of recommendations. Rationale for revising published recommendations, including a discussion of how Rasch analysis can influence recommendations, will be provided. Revised PRO recommendations to quantify shoulder impairment in individuals with HNC will be presented.
