Effective psychosocial care can lessen symptom burden, promote a sense of well-being, and improve overall quality of life for patients with cancer and their caregivers. However, psychosocial screening and treatment continue to go largely unaddressed, despite recommendations from various regulatory bodies, such as the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) and the Institute of Medicine (IOM), to integrate psychosocial screening into standard care. The presenters aim to explore the roles within the multidisciplinary healthcare team in psychosocial care, discuss solutions to overcome barriers to psychosocial screening and treatment, and review evidence-based assessment methods and interventions to address psychosocial health in oncology.
