Clinical Practice (assessment, diagnosis, treatment, knowledge translation/EBP, implementation science, program development)
Cognitive deficits are common in individuals with low-grade and high-grade brain tumors who are admitted to acute inpatient rehabilitation. Cognitive functioning impacts rehabilitation and discharge functioning. In this symposium, we will describe our interdisciplinary approach to cognitive assessment and management that draws on the unique clinical expertise of physiatry, neuropsychology, occupational therapy, and physical therapy. We will describe clinical/observational and performance-based measures to assess cognitive functioning, and discuss medical and behavioral approaches to managing cognitive dysfunction in individuals with brain tumors on our rehabilitation unit. The talks will be framed within the context of an integrated case presentation.
