As patients with HIV are living longer thanks to advancements in antiretroviral therapies, they are developing functional deficits as a result of extended exposure to the virus and opportunistic infections, side effects of the treatments, and the aging process, which has not previously been on the forefront of concern given the medical complexity and illness severity of this population. This lecture will provide an overview of the functional complications encountered, a review of current literature, as well as an introduction to rehabilitation management of this patient population.
