Inpatient Speech Language Pathologist
Children's Hospital Colorado
Denver, Colorado – United States
Emily Kernan M.S. CCC-SLP is an inpatient speech language pathologist at Children's Hospital Colorado. She works in a variety of settings within the hospital, including: neurological rehabilitation, acute care, oncology and an inpatient-outpatient transition program. Previously, she worked in the public school sector with globally impaired children presenting with long term deficits. With a passion to 'bridge the gap' from hospital to school system she began to simultaneously work in both sectors and then transitioned to solely working in the medical setting. Her current role focuses on interdisciplinary rehabilitation to support children with brain injuries in transitioning back to home, school and community. Within the past two years, Emily has taken part in implementing a new weekend model for therapy that focuses on parent education in preparation for discharge. She recently attended a training to teach a yoga protocol specific to children who have sustained brain injuries and is implementing this on an inpatient basis as well. She is an alumni of Syracuse University and continues to seek opportunities for clinical growth and learning on a daily basis.
