Piper Hansen has been an Occupational Therapist (OT) at Shirley Ryan Abilitylab (formerly the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago) since 2005. She has most recently held the role of Clinical Practice Leader since 2013. As part of this role, she establishes clinical practice assessment and intervention guidelines or the organization, oversees translation of research into clinical practice, and leads staff development and training. She is also an adjunct clinical instructor at the University of Illinois at Chicago and an Instructor at Rush University. These roles include both lecturing on a variety of foundational and intervention approaches and advising student research in addition to explore clinical and research aspects of knowledge translation, her current primary areas of research include caregiver training, assessment, electrical modalities, upper extremity neuro-recovery interventions, and robotics.
Piper has presented at the ILOTA, AOTA, and ACRM conferences in formats that include lecture presentation, panel member and poster presentations throughout her career. In addition to conference presentations, she has been a frequent course instructor in the Shirley Ryan Abilitylab Academy. Piper has contributed to peer reviewed journal articles of various topic and book chapters in the topical area of spinal cord injury.
