Cindy Luxem, CEO of the Kansas Health Care Association/ Kansas Center for Assisted Living has been the association since 2003. Her experience with her mother’s dementia and her mother’s subsequent residence in a long term care facility gave Cindy the perspective as a care-giver. Cindy’s work has taken her from restaurant management to years of political staff work. She was recruited by Governor Joan Finney, the first female Governor of Kansas, in 1993 to become a member of her staff in Topeka. Cindy was promoted to the Kansas Health Care Association CEO/President in 2006.
Cindy was born in Phoenix, Arizona and raised in Ellinwood, Kansas. She has a Bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University. Cindy and her husband Tom have been married since 1979.
Their sons include, Andrew and Christopher. Andrew, and his wife, Katy, reside in Salt Lake City where he works for Ancestry.com. Rosemary Agnes, Anthea Ruth and Murray Thomas are the grandkids keeping hope alive!
And Christopher Luxem, is a professional musician, calling Lawrence, Kansas his home.
Cindy served on the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) for more six years. She has served on the Kansas Humanities Council and a member of the Kansas Society of Association Executives. Cindy is a past fellow for the Kansas Health Foundation, a year- long intensive leadership development program. She has presented on team building, how to run successful political campaigns, and other motivational presentations.
