Staff competency language was added to the 2016 reform of Requirements of Participation (RoP) for SNFs by CMS. Staff competency is not guaranteed by credentials or experience; SNF leadership must identify specific competencies and skills, and provide continuing education and training to meet specific resident needs. Competency-based education offers an opportunity for SNFs to create robust, measurable, and targeted staff development that improves resident outcomes, ensures compliance, and improves staff satisfaction and retention, while simultaneously advancing business goals.
This session provides practical, relevant, and effective strategies to help SNF leadership teams implement the CMS RoP competency-based training requirements under their operational umbrella to meet the needs of their residents and staff as well as realize their mission, vision, and business goals. These strategies include information about evidence-based models for staff education in SNFs, tips for real-world, hands-on training implementation, and how to use a competency pathway to tailor training needs for individual SNFs.
