Basic quality improvement principles of root cause analysis and current state assessment will be examined to help determine where improvement efforts should focus. Knowing your deficits leads to next steps. The pediatric case presented during this session will demonstrate this process and how a collaborative effort was launched with multiple departments including value analysis / supply chain to pair a new product roll out with focused CLABSI education. Value analysis / supply chain is often a forgotten partner, so learning how to engage them when support is needed can be invaluable. Participants will be able to examine data that was used initially for the project and how it was shaped into a presentation to the C-Suite that garnered support for the proposed initiative of required education. The project began in July 2018 and CLABSI data that demonstrates effectiveness will be displayed, showing a sustained effort to date of CLABSI reduction.
