This presentation provides an in depth look at ultrasound guided peripheral IV insertion that is unexamined in the current literature. Presently, the majority of the sample populations examined are almost exclusively from pediatric emergency departments and operating rooms. This inquiry explores PIV insertion with USG in all areas of care including the ED, ICUs, inpatient units, and radiology at a tertiary pediatric hospital. Overall success rates, quantity of insertion attempts, catheter dwell times, observed complications and technique are explored. These factors will be statistically compared with PIV placement in these areas using transillumination.
