Nothing to Disclose
This presentation will review the research supporting the use of vascular access teams. We will discuss the process of how to justify a vascular access team to administration through increased patient satisfaction, cost savings by reducing supplies used with fewer vascular access sticks, decrease in CLABSI and CRBSI, and decrease in complications related to vascular access procedures.
We will also provide some unique ideas of how to build the team by working with other departments, standardizing procedures and policies, developing a training and on-going education program for the team as well as the rest of the hospital, and brainstorm some ideas on how to handle increase in workload for the team.
Finally, we will discuss the importance of becoming active in hospital committees, creating and making policy changes, and understanding the politics behind vascular access to help a vascular access professional stay up to date on products, research, and techniques.
