This presentation will review results of a gap analysis program performed at US hospitals seeking to reduce hospital acquired infections. The organizational framework and vascular access practices within these hospitals will be outlined and compared to reported infection rates. Observed gaps in vascular access practice to include policy, practice and people resources will be discussed. Opportunities recognized through the gap analysis will be shared to promote awareness to standardized processes including the role of the vascular access team on infection reduction.
