Evidence based guidelines, standards and literature along with accreditation and regulatory requirements interface with many aspects of vascular access. By collaborating with key stakeholders throughout an organization to evaluate outcome data in detail as well as performance (process) measures, powerful recommendations for patient safety can be made. This presentation reviews how one organization reduced PICC CLABSI incidence by more than 85% and sustained it for two years avoiding over a dozen “predicted” infections and saving lives through that risk avoidance. Data sources and flow of data throughout an organization are reviewed to discuss avenues for gaining support and advocating for patient safety outcomes.
