Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) - Guided Peripheral IV Program Development for the Bedside Nurse: Navigating the Tortuous Road to a Successful Program

This presentation will detail the development of a program to support bedside nurses to use point-of-care ultrasound skills for placing peripheral intravenous catheters (PIVC) for difficult intravenous access (DIVA) patients. Following a brief review of the current literature, we will describe the program in terms of need identification, content development, educational roll-out, and will conclude with program sustainment and troubleshooting. Exemplar educational instruments will be shared. This session is appropriate for anyone involved in ultrasound-guided PIVC insertion practice, programs, or the associated administrative teams who support them.

• Review current literature surrounding the practice of ultrasound-guided PIVC placement by point-of-care bedside nurses.
