Dr. J. Scott Richards is a licensed clinical psychologist and conducts clinical research with individuals with spinal cord injury. His primary research interest is pain following SCI, but has also pursued investigations of adjustment to SCI and the impact of SCI on care providers. Dr. Richards is involved with national and international groups working to refine a standardized classification scheme for SCI pain research and clinical practice. Dr. Richards has been PI of an NIH funded T32 training grant which provided pre- and post-doctoral training to students interested in a rehabilitation research career. He was Director of Research for the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) for 25 years, and helped with recruitment, retention and expansion of our research portfolio across disease entities, and funding agencies, and helped with the development of a translational neuroscience initiative.
