Research Nutritionist

Sonja Hess is Research Nutritionist in the Institute for Global Nutrition at the University of California, Davis, USA. She completed her Masters degree in Food Science Engineering and a PhD in Human Nutrition from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland. She has worked in human nutrition research focusing on interactions among trace elements and control of micronutrient deficiencies in low-income countries, including Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Morocco, Niger, Senegal, Lao PDR and Thailand. Her research program is generally carried out in the context of community-based intervention trials, using an efficacy or effectiveness study design.
