Dr. Melissa F. Young, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at Emory University in the Hubert Department of Global Health at Emory University. She specializes in the areas of maternal and child nutrition, nutrition assessment, micronutrients, anemia, breastfeeding, complementary feeding and early child growth. She received her BS in Nutritional Science from Iowa State University and PhD in Human Nutrition with minors in Epidemiology, Community Nutrition, Economics of Development from Cornell University. Dr. Young’s experience ranges across the spectrum from biochemical/clinical nutrition to implementation research and design and evaluation of public health nutrition programs and policies. Of relevance for today’s talk, she is the co-principle investigator for the Biomarkers Reflecting Inflammation and Nutritional Determinants of Anemia (BRINDA) project which aims to produce more accurate estimates of global micronutrient status.
