Georg Lietz is a Professor in International Nutrition mainly focusing on vitamin A/carotenoid metabolism. His team identified key genetic variants in the pro-vitamin A metabolism and was critical in refining the retinol isotope dilution technique used for the determination of vitamin A status in individuals. He is currently leading the international consortium GloVitAS (Global Vitamin A Safety Assessment) to assess the risk of vitamin A toxicity due to large scale food fortification and other interventions involving institutions from the Philippines, Bangladesh, Guatemala and the US. Professor Lietz is a steering group member of the Global Alliance for Vitamin A (GAVA) that provides support and resources for stakeholders involved in vitamin A supplementation programs. He is also part of the steering group of the American Nutrition Society based Carotenoid and Retinoid Interactive Group (CARIG).
