Dr Philip James is an Assistant Professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. At the start of his career he spent 6 years based in East Africa working on a mixture of community development, agricultural, environmental, disaster management and food security projects with various NGOs. After training in public health nutrition for his MSc. in 2009, he then worked in emergency nutrition operations and research for a further four years before starting his PhD. His PhD was focussed on maternal nutritional status in pregnancy and effects on infant health, with fieldwork based at MRC Unit The Gambia, supervised by Dr Matt Silver and Prof Andrew Prentice. Since completing his doctorate in 2019 he has been working at LSHTM as a post-doctoral researcher, supporting nutrition trials in India & Nepal that look at the prevention of undernutrition through a variety of behaviour change interventions.
