Manolo Mazariegos, Medical Doctor with a specialty on Nutrition and Metabolism, Currently, Coordinator of the Division of Nutrition and Micronutrients at the Institute of Nutrition and Micronutrients at the Institute of Nutrition for Central America and Panama --INCAP--, Guatemala City.
Dr. Mazariegos has more than 25 years of experience in the nutrition field: from clinical research to cutting age science; from clinical to epidemiological research; from metabolism to community food and nutrition programs; from urban to rural settings; and from implementation research to policy on food and nutrition security.
With 20 years of community nutrition experience working with multicenter research networks carrying out randomized clinical trials on maternal & infant nutrition and agriculture, in rural populations of Guatemala,
His main interest is on developing innovative methods, tools and approaches in nutrition, agriculture and public health to reduce hiden hunger (deficit and excess) in Guatemala and the Central American region.
In the last five years has been involved in a clinical trial to evaluate the impact of a biofortified bean with higher iron content in rural adolescents in Eastern Guatemala and he has also colaborated with the development of biofortified maize varieties with higher zinc content. In addition, currently he is involved in developing complementary foods for young children to combat micronutrient deficiencies and growth failure.
Dr. Mazariegos has more than 70 peer reviewed manuscripts.
