Dr. Lwin Mar Hlaing is the Acting Director of National Nutrition Centre (NNC), Department of Public Health, Ministry of Health and Sports, Myanmar. She has been working in Nutrition since 2007 when she was Kayin State Nutrition Team Leader. She attained her bachelor (M.B.,B.S.) in 2003 from University of Medicine (2) Yangon; MPH in 2009 from University of Public Health; and PhD (Nutrition) in 2014 from Southeast Asian Ministers of Educational Organization Regional Center for Food and Nutrition (SEAMEO RECFON), University of Indonesia. During her doctorate training, she conducted a randomized controlled trial to see the effect of local food-based complementary feeding recommendations (using Linear Programming Approach with the WHO Optifood) in comparison with iron supplementation on micronutrient status, growth and gut Microbiota of 12-23 month old Myanmar children. She has involved in several nation-wide Nutrition surveys in Myanmar and led the first ever nation-wide Myanmar Micronutrient and Food Consumption Survey (MMFCS 2017-2018). As in charge of NNC, she is leading the national nutrition programs, nutrition surveillance system and nutrition laboratory for nutrient content analysis of foods to update Myanmar food composition database. In close collaboration with relevant ministries (Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation; Social welfare, Relief and Resettlement; Education; Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation; Planning and Finance) and development partners, Dr. Hlaing is also involved the development the costed Multi-sectoral National Plan of Action on Nutrition (MS-NPAN) which has been finalized at the national level and now planning and implementing at sub-national level.
