Senior Technical Advisor, Evaluation and Strategic Research
Nutrition International
Chowdhury Jalal is a nutritionist and has been working as the Senior Technical Advisor, Evaluation and Strategic Research in Nutrition International (NI) for the past nine years. Before joining NI Jalal led the Nutrition Research Unit at BRAC, Bangladesh. Most of his career revolved around conceptualizing, evidence-based designing, and evaluation of large-scale programs, and building scientific evidence to further strengthen and improve delivery of nutrition and health interventions using implementation research. His most recent and innovative contributions include development of a method to systematically design integration of nutrition-sensitive and -specific interventions into multi-sector programs, acceptability and efficacy trials of iron fortified red lentils including scaling-up distribution and marketing, and portfolio evaluation of a nutrition investment business model. He is currently leading and technically supporting multiple research on adolescent nutrition in developing countries including a school-based nutrition project to deliver a package of interventions for adolescents.
Jalal holds an adjunct professorship at the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition, University of Saskatchewan. He serves as Development Councillor in the Board of the Society for Implementation Sciences in Nutrition. He is also advisors to Hamutuk, a project integrating nutrition into government policies and the work of the private sector in East Timor and Drivers of Food Choice, a competitive grant program to support new research on food choice managed by the University of South Carolina.
Jalal has a PhD in International Nutrition from Cornell University and a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh.
